CASE TL-29 Restoration Step-By-Step
The rarely seen CASE XX made TL-29 was due for a restoration.
Here in this blog I'll show you step-by-step how to replace the wood scales on it and not lose the genuine appearance.
Step 1-
Go to the supermarket and buy some salmon steak filet on a plank. Usually deep frozen fish aisle. The plank is made of cedar and just the right thickness to use for pocketknife scales. Make sure to wash any real fish scales off. . He-He!
Step 2-
A utility razor cuts the planks well. Mark all the spots where the pins are, don't remove them from the liners.
Step 3-
It should look like the photo (above) before epoxy applied and clamped. Vise Grip C-Clamp Pliers hold it firmly but gently.
Step 4-
Use needle size rasps to shape. Be careful, don't cut with a razor because it will splinter. Sand over gently with abrasive sponge. Cedar has rings in the grain that are much harder than the spaces between them. Alternate from rasp to sponge often.
That is it, done!
