Elliot Beardsley and James Alvord-1852

Elliot Beardsley and James Richard Alvord began in business together selling dry goods in Winsted, Connecticut. Beardsley was also a manufacturer of corn cutters, scythes, and pick axes. Together they ventured into the pocket cutlery business, eventually taking over Thompson and Gascoigne (Sheffield)     'Eagle Works' business in 1956. They expanded the business, creating the Empire Knife Company.
