Pig Sticker-1969
The M7 bayonet began to be made in 1963-64 after the M16 was fully approved. It has two piece black plastic grips, a larger muzzle ring to fit over flash suppressor, and a peened pommel. Once peened this assembly cannot be removed so it would need to be sheared off at the tang and then customized with different material if desired. Look for an "FZR" stamping (Frazier Manufacturing Company).
Eugene Stoner designed the M16 and the AR-10 rifle with the Armalite Company. The M7 bayonet can also be fixed to Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 & 590 US issued combat shotguns.
Issac Greaves made a mortise chisel called a "pig sticker" from cast steel. This sparked the "pop a hole" in your head logic of a later unit field modifications in the Vietnam War.
In 1969 the 1st. Cavalry Unit made an extra bowie tip grind on the edge side of the tip of an M7 bayonet. This looked like small karambit below the beveled false edge tip. Originally M7 bayonets have the same blade as older M3 combat knives.
Many have done a swedge or chisel design. Though this M7 Delta Pig Sticker looks to be good at any barbeque to poke strips of bacon and put them on your plate.
Mmmmm... gimme some! !
