Cannon AFB was established in 1942 as Army Air Base, Clovis . This Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico was a prominent influence on knifemakers in the 1960's. Knives by many custom designers began being displayed in booths at Contemporary Spanish Markets (street fairs). The knives were also distributed locally through ranches.
George M. Hutton collected guns and war items. Here is a photo where he is holding a 1908 german parabellum designed by Georg J. Luger.
He also enjoyed playing fiddles that he made himself. During WW2 the fighter pilots training in the Luftwaffe did the same in their spare time.
The wartime period was heavy in his thoughts and he began to grind knuckle trench knives in the machine shop there on his farm.
