Yugoslavian M1948 Bayonet

This is a M48 Yugoslavian bayonet with wooden handle grips and a black metal scabbard.   Marked "Preduzece 44" on the ricasso of the blade and serial numbers.
Originally in use from 1924-1945 designed to fit the M1924 Czech version of the K98 German Mauser rifle.

Military operations in World War II on the territory of Yugoslavia started on 6 April 1941, when the kingdom was swiftly conquered by Axis forces and partitioned between Germany, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria and client regimes.

Later on M24 bayonets were exported to destinations like South America, Serbia, or Syria having many variations and modifications.

The M1948 bayonet was a short version of the first model M1924 bayonet, adopted when Yugoslavia rebuilt the
Vojno Tehnicki Zavod (Military Technical Institute), which was totally destroyed during the Second World War.  Factory 44 was the Zavodi Crvena Zastava (Red Flag Works) in Kragujevac, Serbia.
The factory is still operating today and is known as Zastava Arms.

Yugoslavian M48 bayonets used by Serbia in the Bosnian War 1991-1999 do not have the typical serial numbering on the crossguard  and frog stud of the scabbard but instead it has the serial number on the pommel.
